Building a base in Sons of the Forest is all about location. If you don’t pick a good base location, you’ll put hours of work into building it to find it’s hard to defend or that it doesn’t have ready access to water, food, or materials. Fortunately, we’ve found a place that’s perfect for building a home on this cannibal-infested isle.
Where’s the best place to build a base in Sons of the Forest?
The best base location in Sons of the Forest is the western beach.
First and foremost, it’s one of the most defensible locations in the game. Cannibals don’t spawn from the ocean, so you can build your base along the shore without worrying about one entire direction. Additionally, AI pathfinding seems to avoid deep water, so patrolling tribes will always take the same path across the river that avoids the beach’s edge. The area is flat with no foliage, so you have terrific sightlines, and it’s pretty much impossible for an enemy to surprise you as long as you’re paying a bit of attention.
It also has access to lumber from the nearby forest and water from the river, and there’s an item cache that spawns nearby every 2-3 days that typically has MREs in it. All you have to do is turn off the boombox each time you raid it and wait to hear the music again to know it’s respawned.
You also don’t have to spend time clearing the land. The beach is ready for construction as soon as you get there. It’s close to the locations you need to visit to progress in the story, so you can quickly run out, get the items you need, and head back to base to store any excess. As of writing, there’s nowhere in Sons of the Forest we’ve seen that comes close to having as many advantages as the western beach.
