Apple users are wondering if there’s a NewPipe alternative for iOS. NewPipe allows Android users to enjoy YouTube without ads or tracking. It also has a much better interface without the annoying recommendations that plague the official app. Obviously, this would be great to have on iPhone, but is there anything like available?
Can you download NewPipe for iOS on iPhone, or is there an alternative?
NewPipe is currently only available on Android. Due to the limitations around sideloading apps on iPhone, you won’t find anything like NewPipe on iOS. However, there are a few alternatives.
Invidious
Invidious is a browser-based service that links to a multitude of YouTube proxies. All you need to do to use it is pick a proxy and click on the link. Each proxy has a rudimentary browser, which you can use to search for videos.
However, there are a few drawbacks to it. You can’t log into YouTube and instead have to make a separate Invidious account to save your history and favorites. With Safari, you can even save the Invidious home page as a web app and launch the shortcut straight from your desktop.
YouTube Premium
You probably want to use NewPipe because you don’t want to view ads. Well, for $12, you can subscribe to YouTube Premium and never see an ad again. This service, formerly called YouTube Red, is a great deal, especially since Google is continuing to crack down on those using adblockers.
Unfortunately, you still have to use the horrible YouTube app. Even when subscribed to YouTube Premium, you can’t get rid of the invasive recommendations or customize the app’s layout.
While these options aren’t as convenient as NewPipe, they may help iOS users enjoy YouTube with fewer interruptions. However, they also demonstrate the need for a native NewPipe-like application on iOS.
