It was originally released in game through the “Misunderstood Mischief” Special Research during the Season of Mischief (September 1, 2021 – December 1, 2021). Unfortunately, this research was only available to players who logged in during that time period.
If you were able to complete the “Misunderstood Mischief” Special Research, you can still change the form of your Hoopa by transforming your Hoopa Confined into Hoopa Unbound. To do this, you’ll need Hoopa Candy and Stardust.
Here are the requirements for changing Hoopa’s form:
- Hoopa Confined > Hoopa Unbound: 50 Hoopa Candy + 10,000 Stardust
- Hoopa Unbound > Hoopa Confined: 10 Hoopa Candy + 2,000 Stardust
Once you have enough Hoopa Candy and Stardust, go to Hoopa’s menu and select “Change Form.”
If you didn’t complete the “Misunderstood Mischief” Special Research, the only way to get Hoopa is to wait for Niantic to bring back the research. Niantic has done this in the past with other Special Research, so it’s possible that they will do it again with Hoopa.
