3DS Drops to One-Fourth of Last Week’s Sales in Japan

You would think that a 3DS price drop would stimulate sales, but according to The Media Create Sales, its sales in Japan have not only suffered, they've tanked.

Where the 3DS sold 16,415 units last week, it dropped nearly 75% to only 4,132 this week. Even the DSi XL sold more at 4,176 units, with the DSi not far behind with 3,900 units. To say that this is disappointing would be polite.

On top of that, not one 3DS title cracked last week's Top 20 (9 PSP titles, 6 Wii, 4 DS, and 1 PS3), which isn't too surprising given that it's still the equivalent of a newborn in the console world. Though the 3DS has sold 1.3 units so far this year, the DS has sold 32.6 million units and the PSP has sold 17.9 million units over the course of its lifetime in its homeland.

The optimist in me believes that the 3DS price drop will fare better in America, but not by much.
