2K Australia Closes After Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

2K Australia, the developer of the recent Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, will be closing down and leaving its numerous employees out of a job, according to a source at Kotaku Australia.

The Canberra-based studio, self-described as "Australia's only AAA developer" and who has been making games for over 14 years, will be shutting down due to exorbitant operating costs for the studio in Australia, which doesn't bode well for the games industry in the country.

The report alleges that the studio's once planned move to Melbourne had "caused many high-level members of the team to leave." 2K has released a statement on the closure of 2K Australia:

We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.
