Ubisoft Letting Go of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated during an earnings briefing this afternoon that, with the exception of the Just Dance series, the developer will be effectively nixing last-gen consoles from their upcoming triple-A franchise releases:

On Just Dance, we will continue to bring old-gen console versions. But on the other products like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, The Division, and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions.

Well, this was bound to happen eventually, though it would seem early for any leading publisher to abandon the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 so soon in the new-gen console cycle given their collective install base.

But Ubisoft feels confident enough that developing exclusively for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 is the right move moving forward (no word on Wii U versions). As evidence, the image above shows the total percentage of Ubisoft's sales on current-gen platforms have exceeded those for last-gen platforms by a substantial margin in just this past year.

The newly-revealed Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Tom Clancy's The Division will all be available exclusively for new-gen consoles. This will likely also mean the same for Far Cry and Watch Dogs.
