Sony Opens First-Party Studio for Morpheus Games

Sony plans to release its virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus, early next year. In the meantime, the company has opened a new studio to help develop games for the upcoming device.

A job listing page on the PlayStation website reveals openings for a North West Studio in England. The studio will focus exclusively on original games for Project Morpheus.

In a statement to Eurogamer, Sony failed to go into much detail on the news. A spokesperson briefly discussed the matter.

"We are still in the early planning phase with this studio, and are currently focused on hiring the right team," they said. "We look forward to sharing more news and formal announcements in the near future."

Sources close to the situation say that former Evolution staff are moving to the North West Studio. The developer was recently hit with layoffs after the release of DriveClub. Apparently Evolution was working on a Morpheus-compatible version of DriveClub.

Promising technology will only get Sony so far, so it's good to see the company focusing on games for the device. Hopefully the Morpheus lineup proves formidable when it comes out next year.
