“My Retro Game Box” Officially Goes Under

Well, THAT didn't last long.

Almost a full year ago I wrote a feature about a new monthly purchase start-up called “My Retro Game Box”. The idea was, pay the upfront fee of US$35 a month, and they’ll send you three new games for consoles of your choosing.

As I was clearing off an old computer tonight I found the images I used for that article, so I looked them up. And, crazy luck (or lack thereof), they have decided to officially and publicly shut their proverbial digital doors. Their letter to customers and prospective customers can be found here.

It’s a shame when a business goes under, and I’ll give kudos where due. It was an interesting thing to put together, even though they said they weren’t making a profit and they were kind of overcharging for the games they might’ve shipped out. It still popped into my head as an appealing possibility in concept.

Do you wish you’d at least tried their service? If you were one of their few subscribers, can you elaborate on your experience? And this is the most important question of all: What do you think would’ve made their service better, or at least more appealing to you?
