EVO 2016 has announced its extensive lineup and Bandai Namco's Pokkén Tournament, also known as Pokkén Tekken, has captured one of the slots.
As part of the Pokkén Tournament Championship Series, the game's participation in EVO 2016 will have players compete for prizes which includes invitations and travel to the Pokkén Tournament World Series to take place in San Francisco this coming August.
While it's already available in Japanese arcades (with one of my candid photos of the arcade cabinet above), Pokkén Tournament is set to release exclusively for Wii U on March 18. One point of interest is that it's one of the few arcade cabinets that comes with a controller for accessibility.
Combat features a Resonance Gauge that builds with attacks and can be used toward Mega Evolutions, as well as Support Pokemon that can raise offensive and defensive power. 16 Pokémon have been confirmed with more to follow, including Blaziken, Charizard, Machamp, Lucario, and Shadow Mewtwo which will be available in first-print Wii U copies as an amiibo card.
Given its exclusive release on Wii U, we likely won't see an American version of the Pokkén Tournament arcade cabinet, but things may change if the game becomes a sleeper hit in the States.
