Knights of the Old Republic Is Getting an Unofficial Reboot

Among the thousands of games that have released over the years, Knights of the Old Republic stands as one of the most memorable. Its strong mix of epic storytelling, thrilling combat, and class-leading visuals of the time made it game of the year in 2003 for many critics and gamers alike.

Naturally, many of these fans have been wanting a modern follow-up to both KOTOR releases. For these people, the lack of interest by BioWare to pursue such a game has been a huge disappointment.

Indie developer Poem Studios has taken the opportunity to begin a reboot project for KOTOR titled Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron. Using Unreal Engine 4, the team has assembled a group of artists and programmers who are taking it upon themselves to modify the original game to meet today's high presentation and gameplay standards.

The project is officially described as the following:

Apeiron is a reboot of the Knights of the old Republic that was released in 2003. Apeiron is a remake and remastering of the original game with added content, new worlds, missions, HUD, inventory, items, and compainions.

It's all very promising, although it should be noted that projects such as these have a tendency to take many years. In the case of a humongous game like KOTOR this project could be in production for a very long time. It's likely that it'll be released in parts, and that may just be enough to quench the nostalgic thirst many gamers have.
