Report: Mafia 3 Will Be Locked To 30 FPS On PC [UPDATE #2]

Update #2: More information has been issued by 2K Games, this time indicating that there's a working patch currently in operation. The company states:

 

We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!​

Update #1: The 30 FPS lock has been confirmed by 2K Games, but a patch is being prepared to offer a higher FPS option. The following message was provided:

 

We know how important having options that best suit your PC’s performance capabilities are. The team has been hard at work ensuring that Mafia III’s performance is consistent across all platforms, and right now the game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second. We are currently working on an update for PC that will give players the option to play Mafia III at higher framerates. We’ll share more details about the update, and when you can expect it to arrive, very soon. In the meantime, the team welcomes feedback and would like to hear from you about what performance adjustment options are important to you. We’re actively considering a number of additional post-launch improvements on PC that would give players more control over how they can tailor the game’s experience to suit their rig’s performance. It’s been an incredible journey developing Mafia III and we couldn’t be more excited to get the game in your hands and hear what you think! 

Original Story: PC Gamers pay an arm and a leg to get greater performance from their games. While the improvements over console versions are sometimes minimal (i.e. Forza Horizon 3), many find it worth it knowing that they're playing the best version of the game possible. Unfortunately, this week's biggest game launch will not reward PC gamers for their expensive investment—at least not by much.

Early reports indicate that Mafia 3 will be locked at 30 FPS on PC. There doesn't appear to be any way around it organically, and even the game's PR hasn't objected the reports.

For an action game like Mafia 3, this FPS lock isn't a huge concern, but it's still the kind of detail that will ultimately impact sales.

Several modders have a history of finding solutions for unlocking 60 FPS in games that don't natively support it. The only problem is that these solutions require time to develop, and can result in instability. After all, there's a reason why the developers didn't go the extra step to allow for 60 FPS.

Mafia 3 debuts tomorrow. As previously reported, there will be no early review copies, so we'll be playing the game day and night the moment it unlocks to bring you a timely review and guides.
