BenQ Reveals 240HZ ZOWIE XL2540 Monitor Aimed For eSports Popularity

Earlier this year BenQ acquired ZOWIE in one of the most stunning moves in PC gaming during 2016. Within months the company's best-selling hardware was repackaged with BenQ branding. Now it looks to expand its portfolio.

The BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 is a new PC monitor that BenQ hopes will be popular among eSports individuals. Its stats are the following:

  • 24.5" TN
  • 1920 x 1080
  • 240HZ Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • 400 cd/m2 Brightness

Its biggest selling point is its 240HZ refresh rate, which matches what ASUS will offer in the near future with the ROG Swift PG258Q. 144HZ has long been a standard for competitive gamers, which was a slight jump over the previous 120HZ, and now hardware manufacturers are looking to shift the standard upward.

Many console gamers are skeptical of the significance, and reasonably so. Single-player games don't benefit greatly from framerates beyond 60. However, in competitive multiplayer games players see tremendous benefit from higher framerates. This has caused high demand for 144HZ monitors such as the best-selling BenQ XL2411Z.
