By the end of the year over 200 websites will declare what they thought the best game of 2016 was. In fact, over 70 have already voted. With that we can already get an idea of who might be the winner when all is said and done.
The good news is that this year's game of the year winner is still yet to be decided; it's not a total blowout like in 2015 when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took over 150 votes. So, you can expect a lot of back and forth until the end of the year.
Below are the top ten most voted games for game of the year 2016 (updated 12/20/2016).
- Overwatch – 28
- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End – 26
- INSIDE – 6
- Dark Souls 3 – 5
- The Last Guardian – 5
- DOOM – 4
- Battlefield 1 – 2
- Dishonored 2 – 2
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Blood & Wine – 2
- The Witness – 2
It's safe to say that either Overwatch or Uncharted 4 will come out on top. Which will pull ahead is yet to be decided, although Overwatch has the luxury of being a multiplayer game that regularly reminds players of why it's so great when patches come out. Uncharted 4 came out much earlier in the year and is therefore easier to forget about.
And really, looking at the list it becomes clear that while 2016 was a solid year for gaming, it could have been a lot better. We happen to think that 2017 will be much more fulfilling,
