Best Buy Gets Nintendo Switch Consoles, Sells Out In An Hour

A glimmer of hope shined today on the homes of those who do not yet have a Nintendo Switch, when Best Buy brought in a shipment of the console available for pre-order, which included both the grey and the neon versions.

About an hour later, they were all gone. Both colors. Zero left. Notify me when available.

To be honest, I'm surprised they lasted that long. Retailers around the country (the world?) have been expecting more shipments of the Nintendo Switch every since the Japanese gaming giant promised they would be "ramping up" production "soon," without giving the people any more details. In the mean time, people are signing up for every "notify me" website imaginable just waiting for a chance to get their fingertips on a pre-order button.

This says two things about the Nintendo Switch. 1) Nintendo has made a hotly sought-after product that is coming off the shelves faster than it can be restocked. That's a good thing, especially for a company whose last console recently flamed out, and it speaks to the quality of Nintendo's marketing and potentially the console itself.

2) Nintendo needs to make more of these dang things. I can understand being cautious and not wanting to flood the market and all that, but this is becoming something Nintendo is known for: under-producing desired products. This has led to things like scalping and price-gouging either for Wii Us or accessories like the GameCube controller adapter that was being sold on eBay for around $100 after everything got snatch up in retail stores.

This aspect alone is what is keeping a lot of Wii U holdovers from making the Switch, and, while that is unlikely to seriously impact Nintendo's bottom line when it comes to their new console, it still leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

All that aside, this is a wildly positive sign for both Nintendo and the success of their console. If you see another pre-order opportunity, do not hesitate. Can't say we didn't warn you.
