It's hard to believe it's real, but we're finally here: Friday the 13th: The Game has an official release date. The asymmetrical 1v7 horror game will launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 26, 2017. The digital download of Friday the 13th: The Game will be $40 USD.
As planned, Gun Media's take on Jason Voorhees will launch will multiplayer only, at first, with a single-player, story campaign launching sometimes after that. The game will put one-player controlled Jason Voorhees character against seven player-controlled counselors who are trying to either escape or kill Jason.
As the trailer seems dutifully aware, this officially ends the meme of "Early 2017," which is the only response Gun Media would ever give when asked about when Friday the 13th: The Game will release. Game director Wes Keltner even had to write a long blog post about why this is, insisting that the developers did not want to over-promise and under-deliver in terms of announcing a release date that they may not be able to meet.
The game was briefly considered for an Adults Only rating by the ESRB, but Gun Media was able to get the game approved for a M for Mature rating. It's worth noting, though, that, contrary to other reports, Friday the 13th: The Game will not contain any nudity.
