Ubisoft’s Rocksmith Will Use Real Guitars

A lot of games have made the promise of really teaching you how to play guitar. There was the oh so painfully bad Rise of the Six String, and we're still waiting on the Rock Band 3 Strat just went on sale a couple weeks ago, months after the games launch. And now Senior VP of Sales at Ubisoft, Tony Key went as far as saying that their upcoming music game "will create a new generation of guitar players." The reason? They're going to let you use any guitar you fucking want to (as long as it's electric, of course).

Set for a fall 2011 release on Xbox 360 and PS3, Rocksmith is looking to reach out to everyone from the guitar n00b to the advanced finger wizard master and will feature mini-games that will "hone in on specific skills.". Not much is being said about the games 45 song set list just yet other than it will feature tracks by Nirvana, David Bowie, The Animals and The Rolling Stones.

You would think that the recent collapse of the Guitar Hero series would inspire some fear in such a venture at this point as the rhythm game genre has long breathed its last breath as king of all genres but Key went on to state that "Guitar Hero is a party game. Rocksmith is a music experience."

Is that some sort of hint to Jimi Hendrix being in the game or am I really going to become a better guitarist because of Rocksmith?
