The Last of Us: Sony’s New Exclusive

There's a new PS3 excusive being revealed for the very first time at the Spike TV Video Game Awards this Saturday night. And no, it's not the Sony Smash Bros. game. It's called The Last of Us, and Sony has begun teasing the game via a strange viral video.

The game, The Last of Us, paints a picture of a bleack, post-apocalyptic world. There's complete and utter chaos taking to the streets, and everyone is wearing medical masks to avoid breathing the toxic air. The air is filled with fungal spores, but its purpose is yet to be uncovered.

On the official website features yet another trailer. This one is of an ant. The significance here is that the ant is infected by Cordyceps spores, which can alter the bahavior of insect species. An infected ant will climb plants looking for an optimal position for the Cordyceps spores to bear fruit; the carcass acting as an incubator for the fungus. This BBC video below explains the parasitic process.

The video and premise hints that the world as we know it has essentially ended, as humans are infected by a more powerful strain of the Cordyceps. Seriously… that's a fucking awesome base for a plot. Hopefully this is the original IP we've been craving after a year of sequels.

We'll know more in less than one week. Be sure to join us on GR for our live-blog of the SpikeTV VGAs.
