Let's say right up front that these studies are currently only applicable to the Dutch and the Swiss. Those are some decent human beings that manage to keep their shit together. Good for them. Regardless, a study by the Swiss government found that piracy did NOT affect the budget people spent on entertainment.
Piracy was EVEN found in some cases to lead people to spend MORE money on entertainment stuff. Downloading more music led to buying more music, downloading games actually meant spending the most money on games.
Crazy I know, but maybe all those organizations with an army of lawyers could learn something from a similar study in America.
