New iPad Revealed, Has Retina Display, 4G

Apple has unveiled the next iPad at a press conference in San Francisco earlier today, but confusingly failed to properly name the new tablet.

The iPad comes packed with a quad-core graphics processor, a retina display, a five megapixel camera and 4G compatibility. The 9.7-inch display has 3.1 million pixels on the screen, with a total resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels. Color saturation on the device was increased 44% over the iPad 2.

Apple's Phil Schiller said:

Your retina in your eye cannot discern those individual pixels. The images on it look stunning.

The Wi-Fi only model will cost $499, while the 4G 64GB model will cost $829. The cheapest iPad 2 will now cost $399.

While most analysts expected Apple to call the tablet the iPad 3 or the iPad HD, Apple simply called the new product the 'iPad'. An Apple spokesman said:

It's just 'iPad.' It's what it is.

While this is sure to cause some confusion among consumers who see that the iPad is $100 more than the iPad 2, consumers are likely to pitch the product as the "New iPad".

The iPad will be out on March 16th in the US and UK.
