Rumor: Cooperative Play Coming to Dead Space 3

There's a wide array or rumors currently surrounding the impending Dead Space threequel, the latest of which being that drop-in, drop-out co-op is headed to the game's campaign. Considering the fact that the franchise has traditionally placed a strong emphasis on horror, added cooperative play sounds a bit counterintuitive (see Resident Evil 5). Then again, Electronic Arts has been pushing multiplayer (in any way, shape or form) on the bulk of the games it publishes, so bearing that in mind, the alleged addition does sound rather plausible.

This report comes from a source close to IGN, which states that the second player will control Isaac's guide, another engineer clad in a similar RIG outfit, bearing a helmet with glowing red eyes. It goes without saying that if this rumor does in fact prove to be true, the campaign experience is bound to feature a number of changes.

While mixing up the Dead Space formula is necessary to move the series forward and prevent the franchise from growing stale, is added co-op really the best direction for Visceral to go? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
