No Plans For 3DS Lite, Nintendo Focusing Efforts On Next-Gen Handheld

Those of you holding out on purchasing a 3DS in the hopes that Nintendo will release a refined version of the hardware should know that your efforts are in vain, as the company has no plans to released a 3DS Lite.

Speaking to IGN, Mario legend Shigeru Miyamoto explained that Nintendo would rather focus on the 3DS's successor rather than a hardware refresh. "I really feel like I'm satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it's the best for this generation," he said. "What we're thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld."

When asked about the noticeable absence of a second circle pad in the 3DS, Miyamoto pointed to the gyroscope functionality as a suitable alternative. I don't know about you, but I sure don't want to play a game in which I'm required to swing the device left and right to adjust the camera as I'm directing my character with a single circle pad. I hate to say it, but it looks like "Frankenstick" add-on is here to stay, especially if you plan on playing Monster Hunter.
