3DS XL Launch In Japan A Major Success

The recent release of both New Super Mario Bros. 2 and the 3DS XL in Japan created the perfect storm of success for Nintendo, propelling sales of their new handheld to impressive levels of awesome. According to Enterbrain (via Famitsu) over 193,000 3DS XL units have been sold in Japan over the course of just two days.

These numbers trump both the DSi and DSi XL which (in Japan) sold 170,000 and 103,000 units, respectively. Not only that, but Mario has proven that he's still as relevant as ever, raking in a whopping 480,000 sales for New Super Mario Bros. 2 over the course of a single day. In its first week, the game managed to rack up 900,000 in sales.

Needless to say, the execs over at Nintendo should be pretty happy with themselves. Back to profitability!
