Firefall Developer Picks Up Estranged BioWare And 38 Studios Employees

Before today Red 5 Studios was known for being a team composed of veteran World of Warcraft developers, but now it's a composition with some of the deepest MMO and RPG experience in the United States.

Around 40 video game artists, programmers, and more who were recently let go from BioWare Austin and 38 Studios have found refuge at Red 5 Studios. A large portion of the employees spent significant time on games such as Star Wars: The Old Republic and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which adds valuable experience to a team already headed by one of Blizzard Entertainment's finest, Mark Kern.

But they weren't hired just for fun. Red 5 Studios has been hard at work on an extremely ambitious MMOFPS titled Firefall. It was revealed over two years ago and has evolved into a beautifully cel-shaded online shooter that aspires to be an eSport game of choice for competitive players.

Red 5 Studios has been both daring and bold by announcing that it will be offered for free and will be supported with regular, MMO-esque patches. In order to pull off such a feat and make a game that is compelling enough to be financially sustainable, you can bet the added talent will be put to use.
