Yoshida: No PS3 Price Drop Coming This Year

According to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, the PlayStation 3 is in "prime time" and as such, there are currently no plans at the company to drop the console's price this year.

Yoshida broke the news to Eurogamer at gamescom, telling the outlet: “We are very happy with where we are in terms of PS3: the services, games, and the pricing included. So, there’s no plan for any change we can talk about.” Ah, did you catch that little bit at the end there? Obviously there isn't a price drop plan you can talk about, as that would ruin the surprise!

Regardless, this news is particularly surprising in light of all the rumors currently circulating the web regarding a super-slim redesigned version of the console. With regard to the PS3-4000, Yoshida only said it's nothing more than "a rumor."

Could this all just be an attempt by Yoshida to pull the wool over our eyes before a big reveal of the super-slim at gamescom? Probably not, but it won't stop me from hoping that's the case.
