Overwatch will be receiving paid cosmetic DLC skins for all 12 of the esports teams that are participating in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. Coming sometime early 2018, you will be able to purchase the home jerseys of your favorite team in the league and show off your support for them.
Announced by Overwatch League Commissioner Nate Nanzer today, all of the 26 heroes currently available in the game will be able to wear these skins, as seen in the promotional picture above. While no price has been given yet, a portion of the proceeds will go directly towards the respective team.
Noted by Nanzer in the announcement video on YouTube, “purchasing Overwatch League skins will provide monetary support for teams in the league.” It is currently unspecified just how much of the profits Blizzard receives from purchasing the skins will go to each team, but these new jersey skins will work differently compared to current skins in the game.

Unlike other cosmetic items, these skins will not be unlocked through loot boxes or credits. Instead, Blizzard is introducing a brand new optional currency called “league tokens” that will be exclusively used for the league skins moving forward. These league tokens will be available for purchase using real money.
The tokens are only going to be used for Overwatch League-related cosmetic items and nothing else in-game. For those not interested in putting down real cash to represent your favorite team, Blizzard will graciously be giving out enough tokens for a single jersey skin to all players across all three platforms.
There is no word yet from Blizzard if there is an alternate way of gaining league tokens like through loot box drops. However, it is only a matter of time until they will be released next year, since the Overwatch League kicks off this week with its first preseason on December 6th. The actual season begins next month on January 10th, 2018.
