It must be difficult being Square Enix. You’ve got one of the biggest video game franchises of all time under your belt and yet you still need to strive to be bigger and better than before, which makes sense in the video game industry. Wanting to be better was no doubt one of the reasons why Square Enix recently put up a new job listing to recruit battle and level planners, all in their quest to help make the Final Fantasy VII remake surpass the original game.
For those who are interested in what battle and levels planners are and what is required, turn your attention to below:
Battle Planners:
- Battle system planning and specifications that combines command and action elements.
- Brainstorm ideas for enemies and bosses.
- Construct an environment that includes setting parameters that fits player growth.
Level Planners:
- Workflow construction for location production.
- Brainstorming level designs for each location.
- Implementation of data using Unreal Engine 4.
We can’t necessarily blame them for recruiting new people, especially with how popular the original Final Fantasy VII was. The desire for perfection is normal, and in the job listing Square Enix shared more details about why they were looking for new planners and the importance behind them. Echoing our previous statements, Square said: “it’s been 20 years since the release of Final Fantasy VII in 1997, and it is widely considered a masterpiece title of the [Final Fantasy] series.”
Square further talked about what makes the Final Fantasy VII remake so significant. They said that “their goal” was “for making a “new creation” and not just a simple remake.” And considering how well-received the original was, they also have the tricky job of making sure that the remake keeps those fans happy, as well as attracting new gamers to a critically acclaimed series. It’s a difficult job, and so recruiting internal development staff is necessary.
