Call of Duty 2018

Most Call of Duty Players Have Completed Less Than Half of the Campaign, According to Report

With the unveiling of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 upon us, it’s time to look at past games in the franchise. There were rumors circulating around that the upcoming game would not include a single-player campaign mode and focus on featuring more multiplayer options like battle royale instead. Recent statistics might provide some evidence to show the increased probability of that turning out to be true.

According to a report by TrueAchievements, most Call of Duty players have completed less than half of the campaign across all 13 games released to date. However, it has to be clarified that these statistics have only taken players on the Xbox family of consoles into account, so the numbers exclude PlayStation and PC players. The site calculates the percentages based on Story Participation Average (SPA), which is “the average percentage of unlocked story-line achievements for gamers that have started the game.”

For most Call of Duty games, only an average of 20 to 30 percent of players actually completed the campaign. The game with the highest SPA with 35.91 percent is 2006’s Call of Duty 3. The most recent installment in the franchise, Call of Duty WWII, only managed to garner an SPA of 29 percent, with only 22 percent of players actually completing the story in any difficulty.

Call of Duty Campaign: What about other games?

The report also reveals that other popular game franchises like Battlefield, Gears of War and Halo series of games also had low SPA percentages. These games are much more geared towards multiplayer content and it looks like fewer players actually bother to complete the main story anymore.

In other related news, there was a rumor several days ago of a Nintendo Switch version of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 being sold at GameStop. Activision has not confirmed the authenticity of the news but we’ll only have to wait until the official reveal of the game later today to finally know the truth.
