Bethesda Says Not to Worry, ‘Single Player’ Is Still a Priority

Bethesda says single player is still a priority but does the rest of the gaming world believe them with Fallout 76’s arrival? Personally, we always find it fascinating when single player vs multiplayer is brought up. It’s an argument that’s been beaten to death so many times, yet people still go out of their way to reiterate either their agreement for the death of single player or to say that thinking single player will die out is pure nonsense.

The word ‘online’ is enough to scare some gamers, most likely thanks to microtransactions. With microtransactions, the chance of a game being pay-to-win can raise substantially which isn’t a good look for a game that’s just about to come out. All you need to do is look to Battlefront 2 and the devasting backlash both the game and EA received thanks to their inclusion of pay-to-win loot boxes. To say it wasn’t pretty is most likely a severe understatement.

So, what’s the deal with Fallout 76? Despite the servers being confirmed to only host a small number of people, fans feel that this online experience will simply not match up to the single-player stories they’ve loved ever since they played that one Fallout game that got them into the series in the first place.

Thankfully, Bethesda’s VP of Marketing, Pete Hines, spoke to FZ.se about the future of single player, and how that topic is interlinked with the announcement of Elder Scrolls 6.

“[The announcement of Elder Scrolls 6] also helps convince folks, like, look, this is not forever-more what we’re doing. We are going to do a game that’s just single-player next time around, and yes, we are going to get to Elder Scrolls 6.” He continued to say, “There’s going to be a long time before we’re ready to talk about what those are, because we want the time between when we start to talk about it and it comes out to not be two years long or three years long. But it just gives folks a better idea of where we’re headed and understanding what the studio is working on and trying to do.”

But are fans convinced that Bethesda will keep their word on single player? We’ll have to wait and see.
