It feels as though it is every other week that a group of popular Twitch streamers manages to break Twitch’s rules and then act ignorant onto why they’ve been banned. This time it is Twitch streamers Destiny and MoE, who are now banned from the popular streaming website due to them having hateful content within their streams.
We should warn you that there will be hateful language in this article, so if you’re not keen on hearing all the grisly details then it may be best to skip this. However, what you can take from this is this: the two streamers are licking their wounds after a Twitch ban has left both of them reeling.
For those who don’t know, Destiny is best known on Twitch for his political debates, hateful language as well as kicking ass at Hearthstone. Hateful language such as ‘faggot’ and ‘retard’ are often used in his streams, which goes directly against Twitch’s community guidelines. Of course, despite the fuss Destiny kicked up about his ban, he did narrow it down to two things that he believes he could have done in order to receive the ban.
In a video (sourced below) explaining why he was banned, Destiny said, “the first one was because I called the one dude a bad word. I called him the F-word — I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say it without getting banned on another platform, but I said the F-word, and called him a retard or whatever. Apparently that was bad.” He continued, “but they also clipped the thing where I was talking to my mom and I said, ‘Holy shit, maybe they should just fucking shoot Cubans who were swimming over to the US or something or what my mom wanted to do to Mexicans or whatever.”
Yet it isn’t just Destiny who is facing repercussions for his language. MoE, another popular Twitch streamer, also received a 30-day ban for the use of the word ‘faggot’ in his recent streams. In one video, MoE talks about how he’s “going to try and stop using the word ‘faggot’,” even though it is his favorite word to use. Despite him acknowledging that it lacks a place on Twitch, MoE states that the word isn’t offensive and has a lot of different meanings.
While fans of the two streamers will no doubt go out of their way to defend them, Twitch banning anyone who displays offensive, hateful attitudes is surely a step in the right direction and we applaud them for that.
