The Uncharted Movie rumor mill is springing back to life, thanks to a recent Instagram post by actor Nathan Fillion. It’s definitely been a while since we’ve heard any news or updates about the movie adaptation of a young Nathan Drake starring Tom Holland (of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man fame). Nathan Fillion has always been a popular choice for many gaming and comics-related projects, ever since he starred in the short-lived, yet iconic, science fiction series Firefly.
The Instagram post in question features a picture of the rapper Drake, along with an interesting caption. The caption reads “Sic Parvis Magna. 7/16/2018.” Fans of the Uncharted franchise will immediately recall the famous Latin phrase, the most popular translation of which is “Greatness From Small Beginnings.” According to the game’s lore, that phrase informs a very significant part of Uncharted protagonist Nathan Drake’s life philosophy. This is especially so, since the game depicts Nathan Drake as a descendant of the man that the phrase is often attributed to, Sir Francis Drake.
Nathan Fillion’s Instagram post also teases that something is coming next week on July 16, 2018. It might very well be the official announcement of a role in the upcoming Uncharted Movie. According to COGConnected, Fillion has always shown considerable interest in playing Nathan Drake. In 2011, he said: “I am certainly still interested in playing Nathan Drake. I think every actor I know wants their action-adventure hero, their Indiana Jones. That would be a good one for me, I think.”
However, that seems pretty unlikely now that Holland has snatched the role of Nathan Drake, albeit a supposedly younger version of the character. If it turns out that the upcoming Uncharted Movie is still going to feature an older Nathan Drake in some capacity, Fillion would be the likeliest candidate. If that’s not an option, Fillion could presumably fill the role of father figure to Holland’s Nathan Drake, which means Victor “Sully” Sullivan would be the perfect role for him. Amidst rumors of a possible Uncharted 5, the franchise isn’t dying out anytime soon.
