New PS4 Model

New PS4 Model CUH-2200 Revealed by Sony

PlayStation manufacturer Sony has revealed a new model of the PS4 and people are wondering what it is. The tech giant updated its Japanese online store and it revealed a small change that some were quick to notice. The small change is related to the slim model of the PS4.

The base slim PS4 previous had the model number CUH-2100, however that has now been changed to CUH-2200. At the time of writing, the change in model number has happened to three versions of the PS4. There is a new 1 TB Jet Black version (CUH-2200BB01), a new 1 TB Glacier White console (CUH-2200BB02) and a new 500 GB Jet Black version (CUH-2200AB01).

However, the 500 GB Glacier White model remains unchanged as its model number is (CUH-2100AB02). It’s a bit weird that the 500 GB Glacier White PS4 model number hasn’t been changed. There are a few reasons as to why it hasn’t been changed: Sony could be discontinuing the 500 GB Glacier White PS4 or, the more likely reason, that they just haven’t updated the website yet.

Overall statistics of the consoles remain the same, the power consumption, pricing, size, and weight are the same as they were before. The 1 TB console costs 34,980 yen + taxes and the 500 GB console costs 29,980 yen + taxes.

Only the second digit of the model number was changed, which indicates that the change/s to the console are only minor. There is more than likely an alteration made to the internal components of the consoles, which are done to lower manufacturing costs. If the consoles were to receive a major tweak, the first digit would have been changed. There is no word on if these will be released in the West but we think it’s a safe bet to expect them to be released at some point.

Sony’s PS4 launched in November 2013 around the same time as Microsoft’s Xbox One. Sony revealed that at the end of 2017 the sales of the PS4 hit 73.6 million units. We are now in July of 2018 and that number is sure to have risen quite a bit.
