Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new Limited Edition PS4 Pro to celebrate an incredible milestone for the company and the PlayStation brand. It has revealed that more than 525.3 million PlayStation consoles have been sold worldwide in the span of just 24 years. That’s over half a billion systems sold since the first PlayStation home entertainment system was released all those years ago.
As a thank you to all PlayStation fans, Sony will be introducing the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro. It features a translucent dark blue shell and a matching DualShock 4 wireless controller, as well as a PlayStation Camera, Vertical Stand, and mono headset. What makes this limited edition PS4 Pro even more unique is the fact that it comes with a massive 2TB hard drive. In comparison, normal PS4 Pro consoles come with just 1TB. That’s double the storage space.
The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be available for a price of $499.99 USD. Gamers will have to move fast because it will be limited to only 50,000 units worldwide. Another special feature is that every console will have a commemorative copper plate on its front, etched with a limited edition serial number commemorating important events in PlayStation history. Look out for serial numbers like 09995, which refers to the US launch date of the original PlayStation on September 9, 1995.
Gamers can also opt to purchase both the 500 Million Limited Edition DualShock 4 and the 500 Million Limited Edition Gold Wireless Headset separately, at a price of $64.99 USD and $99.99 USD, respectively. These will be available starting in early September. Meanwhile, the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be available on participating retailer websites starting from August 24, 2018. Earlier in May, Sony released a Days of Play Limited Edition PS4 to celebrate the return of the Days of Play sales promotion, which featured God of War at a reduced price of $49.99 USD merely one month after its release.
