Assassins Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Won’t Have Multiplayer

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will launch barely one year after Assassin’s Creed Origins, but it already seems like it will improve on its predecessor in more ways than one. It will be arriving with a whole swath of new features, many of which will make it way into an Assassin’s Creed game for the first time ever. This includes romance options and the ability to choose between a male or female protagonist. But this also means it won’t have multiplayer.

In an interview with Game Informer, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Game Director Scott Phillips answered 107 rapid questions over the course of 10 minutes. That might seem like a lot but they were mostly simple questions with mostly simple answers. Phillips confirmed that the upcoming game won’t have multiplayer, which was originally introduced in 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. He described why the team made this choice.

“Splitting that focus for our team and the amount of time we had to make the game was, for me, not the right call,” he said. Delivering this giant open-world RPG is the way to do it and I think that’s what Assassin’s Creed should be.”

Additionally, Phillips also said that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be “much longer” than its predecessor, as well as featuring a bigger map and probably a Photo Mode at launch. He described Odyssey‘s biggest improvement over Origins to be its focus on dialogue and choice that matter in the game. On the subject of romance options, there will be a total of six characters to engage with, and players can even romance them all at the same time. Unfortunately, Socrates is not one of them.

Players can choose whether to side with the Spartans or Athenians in the game’s story. The player’s ship will function as their base of operations, where they will meet their recruits and companions like Artemis or Herodotus. Phillips also confirmed that there will be a lot of planned post-launch content. That is definitely in line with our report that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will employ a games-as-a-service model, with a steady stream of weekly content.
