Square Enix has confirmed earlier today that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will indeed feature a New Game Plus mode. The publisher has also shared details on the incentives and additional content awaiting players who wish to embark on their second playthrough of the game. That is, after they have completed the upcoming game for the first time when it releases for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 14, 2018.
According to the game’s official website, everything carries over from the player’s first time through into the Shadow of the Tomb Raider New Game Plus mode. This includes all the skills they have acquired, weapons, outfits, equipment upgrades, and gear. Players should be glad that the latest installment of Lara Croft’s adventure will be featuring a New Game Plus mode at launch when even games like Assassin’s Creed Origins, and soon God of War, only added the highly-requested, oft-seen feature several months after launch.
Additionally, the Shadow of the Tomb Raider New Game Plus mode provides a huge motivation for players to venture into a second playthrough by unlocking three new Paths that they can master. These Paths will be based on the player’s unique playstyle. For example, the Serpent Path emphasizes stealth while the Jaguar Path focuses on hunting and combat. On the other hand, the Eagle Path puts an emphasis on “traversal and resourcefulness,” which includes long-range combat.
Each of these Paths will unlock exclusive rewards such as new skills based on the player’s chosen playstyle, as well as unique themed outfits and weapons. These will encourage players to experiment through each adventure, as different Path appear to provide unique experiences. In other related news, Nintendo Switch owners may have to face some disappointing news, as co-developer Eidos Montreal recently revealed that there are currently no plans for a Shadow of the Tomb Raider port on the hybrid console.
