World War Z

World War Z Game Release Date Period Confirmed, Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019

Zombies have always made for great games, with iconic franchises like Capcom’s Resident Evil and Valve’s Left 4 Dead. Now developer Saber Interactive has announced that World War Z will be launching for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2019. It will be based on the 2013 Paramount Pictures movie of the same name instead of the source material, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, which was initially published back in 2006.

Alongside the announcement, the developer has released “The Horde” trailer for the upcoming game, as revealed by Gematsu earlier today. The World War Z game will feature the extremely fast and agile zombies seen in the movie. Hundreds of them will appear on-screen, as they rush in packs and swarms to overwhelm players. This is described as the game’s dynamic swarm simulation, where the zombies will pile up atop each other to reach hard-to-reach places.

Additionally, World War Z will feature diverse zombie mechanics, which could mean that there will be many different variants of enemies in the game. In the trailer, we can see a zombie lunging at the player, which differentiates it from normal zombies who presumably can only run, as well as a zombie clad in heavy armor. The game also features an advanced gore system, with destructible body parts and lots of blood.

It remains to be seen if the game will be able to maintain a stable framerate throughout all the chaotic zombie action. However, the game will be powered by Saber Interactive’s new Swarm Engine, which certainly looks like it’s capable of handling everything thrown at it in the trailer. World War Z was originally announced at The Game Awards 2017 in December last year, where we received our first look at the various locations featured in the game, from snowy Moscow to the streets of New York.
