If you thought that by the end of Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, Lara's transformation into a hardcore heroine would be complete, you are sorely mistaken.
According to the game's creative director Noah Hughes, this is only the tip of the iceberg in exploring the beginning of Lara Croft's journey. “We envision carrying forward from here, rather than this being a brief detour into her origins,” he told IGN. “We want to start this adventure here and carry it on… that’s not to say we wouldn’t skip a year here or there, but we started this with the idea of continuity and building upon [it].”
However, that doesn't mean we won't see her character evolve in the 2013 release—Crystal just wants to make it clear that they plan to continue to provide an engaging level of character development in future entries. “I look at this as an origin series rather than an origin story," Hughes added. "By the end of [this first game] we will have a competent adventurer, but I still want there to be anticipation about Lara becoming the full-on Tomb Raider, and through all of that hopefully retaining some of the complexity and humanity that we’ve established here.”
Tomb Raider is set to release on March 5th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
