Famitsu Poll Reveals Japanese Gamers Want Vita More Than Any Other Platform In 2013

Soul Sacrifice, one of several reasons Japanese gamers want a Vita in 2013.

Maybe the Vita isn't hosed after all.

Results from a poll conducted by Famitsu reveals that 64% of Japanese gamers plan to buy a PlayStation Vita in 2013. Surprisingly, it comes well ahead of every other platform including the Nintendo 3DS and the brand-new Wii U.

Below are the results:

  1. PS Vita – 64.0%
  2. 3DS – 48.2%
  3. Wii U – 33.8%
  4. PS3 – 25.2%
  5. PC – 14.4%
  6. Xbox 360 – 10.6%
  7. Smartphone – 10.0%
  8. PSP – 9.6%
  9. Wii – 9.0%
  10. iPad – 7.0%
  11. DSi/DSiLL – 5.2%
  12. iPhone – 5.0%
  13. iPod Touch – 4.0%
  14. Other – 2.4%
The poll was directed toward Famitsu readers making the results a stretch from validity, but seeing the Vita at the top of any list is a success for the struggling handheld. The driving factor for skyrocketing the Vita's percentage to 64% could be due to numerous factors such as its strong JRPG line-up for 2013 which includes Soul Sacrifice, Phantasy Star Online 2, and Tales of Hearts R. Further on the point, a Monster Hunter game has been rumored and Japanese gamers could be responding with their votes.

At the moment the Vita is fighting to surpass the 5 million unit mark during its first year, and Kaz Hirai has gone on record to say sales are below expectations. But as we've learned from the PlayStation 3 the battle is far from over with a price drop, game announcements, and new SKUs certain to be on the horizon providing much needed boosts in value.
