In a move that was anticipated, Hideo Kojima has announced the next entry in the Metal Gear series: Metal Gear Solid V. After appearing a couple minutes late to his presentation wearing bandages on his head, he showed a trailer which merged content from both Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.
After debuting the trailer, which confirmed that The Phantom Pain is Metal Gear after all, Kojima shared details which add some context to Big Boss crawling around a hospital. At the beginning of the game Big Boss will fall into a coma after what appears to be an accident during the Ground Zeroes mission. He will be trapped in his own state of mind for a staggering nine-years, at the end of which he will awaken with weak limbs in the middle of a siege on the hospital he has been staying in.
There will be no time to undergo physical therapy, so Big Boss will have to struggle to gain his composure to survive. Several intimidating characters, which were shown during The Phantom Pain's reveal, appear and attempt to vanquish any hope that Big Boss has of living. In typical fashion, he fights and pushes his way through fire, enemies, and long-arduous hallways to begin his next remarkable adventure.
Metal Gear Solid V is schedule to release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
