Telltale Games Cancels Development Of King’s Quest

Patience is a virtue, young king.

In a statement delivered to DigitalTrends, Telltale Games has confirmed that it won't be working on King's Quest any longer. The statement says:

While we deeply love King’s Quest here at Telltale, we can confirm that we are no longer working on the franchise. There was a time last year that we investigated partnering with third party developers to produce the game as a partnership but decided against outsourcing. We are not privy to what plans Activision has for the franchise, if any.
A new iteration of King's Quest was announced back in 2011, a year before Telltale produced the award-winning The Walking Dead: Season One. Even before then modern King's Quest titles were canceled a total of three times under Sierra, Vivendi Games, and Silicon Knights. It's now been 15 year since the last title in the series was released, such a great length of time that many of today's gamers have no idea what it is.

The marriage of Telltale's unique storytelling style and the engrossing adventures of King's Quest appeared to be a match made in heaven, but it looks like the studio will continue to set its focus on a second season of The Walking Dead. Oh well, maybe the fifth time is the charm.
