The Halo franchise and film director Neill Blomkamp… Two of my favorite entities in the entertainment industry, which at one point, were going to collide in what would have been a knockout success in the form of a Halo film. Sadly, that never came to fruition, but since we got the incredible District 9 because of it, I really can't complain.
However, Blomkamp recently spoke out to the possibility of directing a film centered around Microsoft's prized gaming franchise once again, making it clear that'd he still love to pursue it, only he'd need more creative control. During a press event for his upcoming film Elysium (which looks awesome by the way) Blomkamp explained:
I still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film. But that's the problem. When something pre-exists, there's this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film's interpretation of the same intellectual property. Then the entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. You can really live up to or fail in their eyes. That part isn't appealing to me, but the original pieces are appealing.
Bearing all that in mind, would you like to see a Blomkamp-directed Halo movie? For an idea of what that might look like, be sure to check out the video above, which contains a series of promotional content that he put together for Halo 3 in preparation for its release.
