Yakuza Kiwami 2 PC port teased by Sega

Sega is teasing a PC port of Yakuza Kiwami 2. The company has put up an interesting hint on their Steam storefront.

The tease in question involves Sega posting a picture of Goro Majima’s iconic eyepatch with their logo on their Steam storefront. Goro was one of the playable side characters in Yakuza Kiwami 2. Players could unlock his campaign “The Truth of Majima” by completing chapter six of the main campaign featuring Kazuma Kiryu.

This isn’t the first hint of a Yakuza Kiwami 2 port for PC: The ESRB posted a rating for the PC version of the game back in March. However, this is the first time that Sega seems to be hinting directly at it.

Released on PlayStation 4 in the West in August of last year, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a remake of the original Yakuza 2 for PlayStation 2, and later PlayStation 3, and Wii U. The game continues the story of former yakuza Kazuma Kiryu as he deals with the Japanese underworld.

As with the rest of the series, Yakuza 2 is a more grounded, Japanese take on the open world genre. The fictional locations that the game takes place in are notably based on real-world locations. Kamurocho is based on Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district in Tokyo, and Sotenbori on the Dotonbori district in Osaka.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 adds a number of new features to the original. Aside from Goro Majima’s campaign, Sega also added numerous features and mini-games from later games in the series, including playable versions of Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtual-On.

With all the changes made to it, Yakuza Kiwami 2 being a PlayStation 4 exclusive seems like a missed opportunity. That said, the original Yakuza 2, while initially a PlayStation 2 exclusive, eventually reached other consoles. Could it be then that Yakuza Kiwami 2 is following in the originals footsteps? Only time and an actual announcement from Sega will tell.
