Sekiro Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro sales top 2 million in 10 days

It seems Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has made From Software and Activision a pretty penny. A representative from the publisher has confirmed that Sekiro sales topped two million in just ten days.

Michelle Fonseca, Activision vice president of product management and marketing, revealed the figure in a recent press release. She stated that “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has brought something very special and unique to Activision’s portfolio of games. It’s been an honor to work with From Software to help introduce a brand-new franchise to gamers around the world.”

Fonseca credited From’s fans for the game’s performance. She says “the fans have made Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice one of the most incredible game launches of 2019 thus far.She continued by saying that “it has been gratifying to see the enjoyment from fans when they overcome each challenge.”

From Software and Activision have crossed paths in the years before the release of Sekiro. Both were involved in the fabled Tenchu series, having published different iterations of it in the past. In fact, Sekiro started out as a new Tenchu game.

The game itself marries the ninja stealth elements from the Tenchu franchise with the overall gameplay loop that From Software perfected in Dark Souls and Bloodborne. As such, players have found Sekiro to be one of the most challenging games in the stealth genre thus far.

Sekiro selling so quickly seems to bode well for the continued success not just of From Software’s games, but of challenging games of this nature in general. While there are the occasional calls for an “easy mode,” From Software’s challenging style has seemingly struck a chord with gamers, resulting in strong sales.

With the success of Sekiro in mind, it seems highly likely that Activition will continue to collaborate with From Software, and that other companies will try to follow in their footsteps.
