Next Xbox Will Reportedly Feature Microsoft’s IllumiRoom Technology

Remember that snazzy room-lighting technology that Microsoft showed off earlier this year? Well there's a really good chance it will be one of the Xbox 720's new features.

For those that don't know, IllumiRoom is piece of Microsoft tech that allows content to literally spill off the television screen onto the walls around you. For a better idea of exactly what I'm talking about, be sure to check out the video above.

The company plans to discuss more about IllumiRoom at CHI 2013, which will be held later this week, but a document online from Microsoft Research teases a few things ahead of time. "Our vision for a fully developed IllumiRoom system includes an ultra-wide field of view device sitting on the user's coffee table, projecting over a large area surrounding the television. The device would be connected wirelessly to a next-generation gaming console as a secondary display."

Since this is coming from Microsoft, it's safe to assume the only "next-generation gaming console" they could be referring to is the next Xbox. With the console's big reveal just a few weeks away, all will become clear soon. In the meantime, let us know what you think of this new tech. Would something like this be a feature that would sell you on a new Xbox? Sound off in the comments below.
