Sony Adds Formerly PC Exclusive Warframe To Its PS4 Launch Lineup

It's all about the games, and the PlayStation 4 just keeps adding them.

The PC free-to-play title Warframe has decided to join the PS4's launch library arsenal. Developed by Digital Extremes, the team experienced in games such as Unreal Tournament and The Darkness 2, Warframe offers a third-person shooter experience that can be played co-operatively with drop-in/drop-out accessibility. Even more, it's available to play without purchase. In order to monetize the game there is a microtransaction market that provides quicker character progression, through outfitting and skills, in exchange for real-world currency.

Digital Extremes has shown a desire to take advantage of the PS4's social capabilities with its Warframe console version. Platform exclusive social connectivity and community interaction features will find their way into the PS4 version upon release.

You might be wondering why a developer with over 20 years of PC exclusives would jump on a PS4 launch title. Creative Director Steve Sinclair said the following to IGN:

Sony caught wind of [Warframe], and said, 'hey, what do you think of bringing it over to PlayStation 4?', and we were very surprised to hear that.

Sony's reputation as a developer-friendly manufacturer combined with the PS4's streamlined design is paying off with a growing list of console exclusives that make it appear untouchable. Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online similarly joined the console's early line-up lending the console some MMO-centric ammunition.
