Earlier this year, Microids announced a remake of XIII. The comic book inspired shooter from 2003 was originally set to arrive on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and Mac on November 13. However, that is no longer the case, the publisher announced that the XIII remake has been delayed to next year but a more specific day wasn’t nailed down.
Microids announced the delay via a post on Twitter, alongside its original trailer. However, it did not state any specific reasons for the delay. An accompanying press release simply stated that it was to give developer PlayMagic additional time to polish the game.

“We are thrilled with PlayMagic’s work so far. This additional development time is needed to reach the level of polish we’re aiming for,” stated Microids head of production Francois Coulon in the press release. ” The announcement was greeted by an overwhelming response from the community and we’ll make sure to deliver the best possible game to our fans.”
Originally released by Ubisoft back in 2003, XIII adapts the Belgian graphic novel of the same name from 1984. The game follows the amnesiac XIII (voiced by David Duchovny) as he tries to remember who he is and why he’s now being attacked by assassins.
Owing to its graphic novel roots, XIII features a unique cel-shaded art style meant to evoke the comics. This was something not commonly seen back in those days, especially considering the technology in use back then. This was years before games like Borderlands, and the game ran on Unreal Engine 2. As a further homage, the game also showed graphic novel style panels whenever the player performed a headshot, or when an important clue was nearby.
Following its original release, several developers released various spin-offs including a side-scrolling mobile sequel. However, no proper first-person shooter follow-up to XIII has ever been released. The XIII remake then represents the first time the game is returning to its FPS roots. Fans will now just have to wait just a little bit longer to play it.
