The launch of WoW Classic was the boost that Asmongold needed to climb to the top of the Twitch charts. Asmongold beats Tfue and Shroud thanks to the success of Blizzard’s MMORPG, securing the top spot during the month of August 2019.
Asmongold is a popular streamer and long-time World of Warcraft player, but it was the high interest in WoW Classic that helped him top August viewership charts. Considering that the MMO launched just a couple of weeks ago in August 27, the amount of Twitch viewers that it managed to attract is nothing short of extraordinary, peaking at over one million viewers on launch day.

According to Dexerto, and based on figures provided by StreamElements, Asmongold beat Tfue during August by a short margin. Turney ‘Tfue’ Tenney remains as the undisputed top streamer of Epic Games’ Fortnite in the absence of Ninja, who recently moved to Microsoft’s platform Mixer. Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel, a former Overwatch pro player, comes in third place, with Shroud following closely.
Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek has recently decided to start streaming WoW Classic on a regular basis, a move that led to a significant loss of subscribers. According to Shroud, he probably lost two or three thousand subscribers since he decided to switch to Blizzard’s MMO. The Twitch viewership top 10 for August also includes TimTheTatman, who is also currently streaming WoW Classic.
One popular streamer that doesn’t look convinced nor tempted by WoW Classic is Dr. Disrespect. While checking an Asmongold WoW Classic stream, Dr. Disrespect acted confused and criticized the game’s user interface. Asmongold didn’t hold back, replying with a “F*** that s***” to Dr. Disrespect’s remarks.
Considering that Asmongold is now sitting in the first position of Twitch’s individual ratings, and with WoW Classic’s fame showing no signs of slowing down, he is clearly coming out on top of this quarrel for now.
