Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has admitted to the fact that the Surface has failed to live up to the company's expectations, saying flat out that "We built a few more devices than we could sell," according to The Verge.
As such, we saw the Microsoft-branded tablet get a massive price reduction less than two weeks ago, along with the news that the device has costed the company a whopping $900 million in Q1 losses. The outlet also reports that Ballmer said that the price cut was done in an effort to boost sales of the failing device. Well, duh.
Sadly, the bad news doesn't end there, as the Windows-based PC market is far from flourishing. Ballmer went on to address the overall dwindling interest in Windows-based hardware including PCs, phones, and tablets. I guess Windows 8 just isn't cutting it for consumers.
It will sure be interesting to see how Microsoft plans to right these wrongs as we head into the latter half of 2013. Will the Xbox One turn things around for the company? As always, sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.
