The Wonderful 101 Remastered Kickstarter

Wonderful 101 hits Kickstarter, surpasses $50,000 goal almost instantly

After several hints over the past week, PlatinumGames has brought The Wonderful 101 to Kickstarter. The Wonderful 101: Remastered is the studio’s first foray into self-publishing, and the financial backing from Kickstarter will be used to bring the game to Nintendo Switch, and if stretch goals are met, PS4 and Steam.

The Wonderful 101 Kickstarter met its $50,010 goal almost instantly. As of writing, the project is sitting at just over $300,000 pledged and growing. So far, the project has already met the stretch goal to bring the game to Steam, and is well on its way to the $500,000 goal to bring it to PS4.

For those unfamiliar with The Wonderful 101, it’s a “unit action” game that puts you in control of a whole team of heroes at once. The game first came out on the Wii U in 2013. Unfortunately, that console’s small userbase means not many gamers got a chance to play the title.

According to the Kickstarter FAQ, PlatinumGames is remastering The Wonderful 101 with Nintendo’s blessing. Unfortunately, the plan to remaster The Wonderful 101 preceded the recent investment from Tencent, which is why the studio is taking to Kickstarter to raise the money needed to publish the game.

There are a plethora of backer rewards, including having Hideki Kamiya tweet at you, then block you at the $100 level. For most backers, the most important tiers are $36, which gets you a digital copy of the game, and $41, which purchases a physical copy of The Wonderful 101.

The Kickstarter doesn’t give a definitive date for when The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be released. The game-only tiers list an estimated delivery of April 2020, which means backers could have The Wonderful 101 in their hands as soon as two months from now.
