Call of Duty: Ghosts has sold over $1 billion into retail for the game's launch, Activision has revealed.
Sadly, the publisher has not provided information on how many of those copies have actually been sold to consumers, so the game's level of success still remains a mystery. However, that hasn't stopped Activision CEO Bobby Kotick from praising the franchise. Here's what he had to say regarding the launch of Ghosts:
Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation. More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.
Could Activision be holding off on revealing sell-through numbers because it didn't manage to surpass Grand Theft Auto V's day one sales of $800 million? There's a good chance Kotick is waiting to reveal specific numbers once the next-gen versions have hit retailers as well.
