Iwata: Nintendo Not Abandoning The Console Market

There's no doubt that some serious changes are in the works for Nintendo, but company president Satoru Iwata has made it clear that abandoning the console market simply isn't in the cards, despite Wii U's underwhelming performance.

"The spread of smart devices does not spell the end of game consoles. It's not that simple," Iwata explained during a press conference held late last week. "It doesn't mean that we should put Mario on smartphones."

This statement comes after Iwata's mention of looking to smart devices as the company seeks to change its business model, leading many to jump to the conclusion that Nintendo would be brining its games to smartphones and tablets. Whether or not that will ever happen remains to be seen, but it doesn't look like Iwata is ready to embrace that idea just yet.
